CFEL-ATTO contributed to an international collaboration realized at the FLASH free electron laser in Hamburg. Using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the group of researchers succeeded to image charge flows in the modified nucleobase thiouracil (see image). In general, the class of thionucleobases promises a variety of medical applications. The work was led by Prof. Markus Gühr from the University of Potsdam and the results are published in Nature Communications.
