CFEL-ATTO joins the SFB925

Our group recently joined the Collaborative Research Center SFB925 “Light induced dynamics and control of correlated quantum systems” from the University of Hamburg, which has been successfully selected for a new funding period from July 2019 until June 2023.

The FS-ATTO group is contributing to the SFB925 with a new project entitled “Ultrafast molecular stabilization mediated by electronic correlations”, in collaboration with the group of Prof. Angel Rubio of the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD). In this framework, Lorenzo Colaizzi started working on the stabilization of DNA subunits on July 1st, 2019.

The attosecond technology at the core of our group research activity will allow us to investigate in the time domain the role of electronic correlations in conjugated electron systems such as cyclic polycarbon molecules, which are broadly investigated throughout the SFB925. At the same time, the group of Prof. Rubio will develop a quantum mechanical first-principles theoretical platform combining the use of time-dependent density functional theory with non-equilibrium Green’s functions.

The main goal of is to unravel a general mechanism for the laser-assisted stabilization of XUV photoionized molecules and establish new schemes, based on electronic correlations, for the control of the molecular dissociation on a sub- to few femtoseconds time scale.
